Although this is a rural location, war has still affected the village. The War Memorial near St Luke’s Church records the names of those who lost their lives in The Great War and in World War 2.
A write-up on these courageous men was written by the late John Hagger, with assistance from Terry Gregory, and sent to the British Legion (before the History Group started). To see this please visit:
There were many other ways in which local people contributed to the defence of the country, such as ancilliary and volunteer organisations, secret groups, and of course those in the reserved occupations (such as farmers and railway workers) who kept the country running in times of national threat.
An Exhibition of Wartime will be held on Saturday 30th June 2018, in Newton Pop Village Hall. We hope to include many items of local memorabilia loaned by people of the area.
