For a medium-sized village quite a lot has happened here! The village has held events of many types, and has participated in sporting activities for decades. Some events were just one-off, while others happened annually or just from time to time.
Traditional team sports include rugby, football and cricket, while individual sports or special events have included tennis, tub races on the River Otter. Village Sports Days used to take place, certainly early in the 20th century.
An annual carnival took place in Newton Pop for many years, but sadly there are no longer enough residents willing to organise and manage these events.
The village hall has hosted many plays and pantomimes put on by local groups.
